2025 Selvapiana Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Chianti Rufina. Yield 12%. Harvested late November.
Historically one of our most revered oil producers, the iconic Rufina estate, Selvapiana, was the last to harvest in 2025 of any of our growers. Their 2025 oil is classically deep green, with woodsy aromas of white truffle, tree bark and petrichor. Bright notes of black pepper and artichoke continue to build on the long finish.
2025 Pruneti “Frantoio” Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Chianti Classico. Yield 12%. Harvested mid-October.
The Pruneti brothers are among the most dynamic olive growers of Central Tuscany, producing extra virgins that remind us of the classic Tuscan oils of 25 years ago. This oil is made entirely from Frantoio olives grown in and around San Polo in Chianti. Its emerald-green color is accompanied by a complex bouquet featuring Asian spices, black pepper and cardoons. Cracked pepper and chopped herbs persist throughout, with a burst of artichoke complementing the finish.
2025 Franci Villa Magra Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Montenero. Yield 13%. Harvested Oct. 10-20.
Giorgio Franci is a superstar among Tuscan oil makers and while his Grand Cru oil enjoys the most fame, Villa Magra is, proudly, his flagship oil. This year’s selection features artichoke and Asian spice aromas that lead into a vibrantly colored oil with a bitter bite. Green oil flavors saturate the palate, weaving together the rich scent of fresh leather, bark, and black pepper. As we’ve come to expect in Franci’s great Villa Magra, the finish lingers, gradually intensifying with time.
2025 Fonte di Foiano Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Bolgheri. Yield 12%. Harvested Oct. 15-20.
In 1985, the Italian coast was largely spared by the frost that devasted inland Tuscany, and it's why 1,000-year-old olive olive trees still exist in the hillside groves of Fonte di Foiano. In 2025, Foiano was one of the few Tuscany estates to enjoy not only high quality in their oil, but good volume. This richly colored 2025 oil features a bright bouquet of chopped hay and chicory. On the palate, there is a gentle, classic bitterness that carries through to the long, spicy finish.
2025 Prunatelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Chianti Rufina. Yield 14%. Harvested Oct. 25-31.
Our love affair with Rufina’s Prunatelli olive oil began with the 1995 harvest! Made largely from Frantoio olives, from a biodiverse, high-altitude hillside, this year’s Prunatelli extra virgin delivers a heady, rich palate impression, with ripe fruit and a long,
complex finish.
2025 Agostina Pieri Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Montalcino. Yield 17%. Harvested Oct. 25-Nov. 5.
Having imported Agostina Pieri’s terrific Brunello since 2006, we welcomed their olive oil to our portfolio a decade later, just one year after the inaugural pressing from their 100-year-old trees. A field blend of Moraiolo, Correggiolo and Frantoio, this year’s oil impresses with aromas of lime zest, black pepper and wood smoke. Flavors of crushed artichoke and sorrel on the palate meld into a spicy bitterness on the long finish.
2025 Franci Grand Cru Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Montenero. Yield 13%. Harvested early November.
“Grand Cru,” Giorgio Franci’s top bottling, is perennially considered to be Tuscany’s most perfect oil. The 2025 selection features vibrant aromas of freshly cut hay and citrus zest that are further highlighted by green cardoon and pepper. On the palate, as always, it is expansive and noble with the finish recalling green, peppery notes.
2025 Elaine Trigiani Olio della Donna “Piero” Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Chianti Classico. Yield 15%. Harvested Oct. 15-21.
We just love the artisanal oils of Elaine Trigiani. This year’s field blend comes from her “Piero” oliveti at the northern gateway to Chianti Classico and features a high percentage of Moraiolo. Milling occurred within hours of harvesting, resulting in a fresh and supremely balanced oil. There are underlying notes of sous bois and minerality, but the aromatic stars here are chicory and chopped rosemary. The palate, pure and bold, has a pleasing green bitterness that evolves into a piquant finish of cinnamon and Asian spices.
2025 Carnasciale Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Valdarno. Yield 14%. Harvested on selected dates starting Oct. 15.
The Rogosky family of Il Carnasciale is collaborating with the University of Florence to study the effects of time and rotation speed when milling. Their olive groves are high above the Arno River in Eastern Tuscany and feature four co-planted varieties. This year's oil focuses largely on Moraiolo, versus last year's Frantoio. The resulting oil is bright and aromatic with a prominent note of lemon zest and arugula bitterness. It is delicate and even more ethereal than the Frantoio-dominant oil of last year.
2025 Fonte di Foiano “1979” Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Bolgheri. Yield 10%. Harvested Oct. 10-15.
Though it’s a relatively recent discovery for us, we’ve come to believe that Fonte di Foiano is one of Tuscany’s greatest oil producing estates. From mostly ancient trees on the Bolgheri coast, Foiano’s olives benefit from the area’s more temperate climate, and so they are traditionally harvested earlier and greener than in other parts of Tuscany. The “1979” is a special tribute to the estate’s founding and is made entirely from the rare Leccio del Corno variety. Juxtaposed against a radiant green hue, the aromas are an intriguing blend of Asian spices, thistle, and herbs. Attractive green flavors on the palate persist through a gentle finish with very modest heat.
2025 “Sàgona” Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Pratomagno. Yield 12%. Harvested Oct. 20.
Daniele Corrotti harvested early to catch the delicate aromatics of the year and made an oil of beautiful depth. A field blend of Moraiolo, Leccino and Frantoio, from his high-elevation “Sàgona” oliveti in the Pratomagno mountains, this is one of the year’s more exotic oils with aromas of rich, roasted coffee and cardoon. On the palate, tertiary flavors dominate over the green elements, which leads to a very long and savory finish.
2025 Melograno Misto Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Chianti Classico. Yield 13%. Harvested Nov. 3.
Castellina in Chianti’s Valeria Ronconi is the Grande Dame of Tuscan Olive Oil, with more than a half century of experience. But now that she’s in her 80s, she only makes a tiny amount of oil, mostly for The Rare Wine Co. As the name suggests, it is a true field blend featuring Moraiolo, Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino and Leccio di Corno. The bouquet and palate this year are full of old-school personality with dry, woodsy flavors and prominent bitterness. Notable picante heat lingers on the finish.
2025 Il Poggione Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Montalcino. Yield 12%. Harvested early November.
This is where our Tuscan Olive Oil journey began, as we awoke to the glories of great Tuscan oil in the mid-1980s, when we had dinner one April night at the venerable Montalcino estate, Il Poggione. And since we began importing its extra virgin olive oil in its iconic 1-liter bottle in the mid-1990s, Il Poggione has occupied a very special place in the hearts of Rare Wine Co. clients. Rich and flavorful, the 2025 version features zesty green and black peppercorn aromas with dark, spicy artichoke flavors on the robust
finish.
